Herts FA Charity Shield, Hertingfordbury Park
Hertford Town progressed into the quarter-finals of the Herts FA Charity Shield on Tuesday night in their first competitive game of the new season. A strong line-up represented the Blues with only Stock, Tomkins & Brown absent from the squad. The match started evenly with two early chances for The Blues blazing over the bar at The Stable End but it was London Colney who took the lead in the 23rd minute with a close range header after Hertford’s defence failed to clear their lines. Almost immediately following the restart The Blues forced the ball into the opposition’s box & following a bit of a scramble, the ref pointed to the spot after a LCFC player handled the ball. Tommy Wade stepped up and aimed for the bottom-right corner but the ‘keeper was equal to his effort.

Chris Hall-Ramsey replaced TJ during the interval and made an immediate impact lashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner after being put through by Charlie Smith. London Colney hit back in the 63rd minute when their striker broke free before placing a shot past the outstretched reach of Harry Ricketts in the Blues’ goal. However, within five minutes of the restart, the home side restored parity from the spot after a second penalty was awarded for handball. Anthony Anstead stepped up this time and made no mistake. Anstead doubled his tally in the 81st minute chasing down a high ball from half-way before coolly lobbing the onrushing ‘keeper from 30yrds. The full-time whistle was greeted warmly by the noisy home fans who cheered their victorious heroes from the pitch.
