More Tuesday evening blues
Bostik League North
Tuesday 17th October 2017
Heybridge Swifts 6(4) Hertford Town 0(0)
For the first six minutes of this match it seemed as if the Blues were going to lay to rest the demons that have beset them so far this season on Tuesday evenings. They penned FA Cup heroes, Heybridge Swifts, backing the half but a breakaway goal in the 7th minute dealt them a severe blow from which they would not recover.
Further goals in the 20th, 23rd and 33rd minutes gave the hosts a virtually unassailable half-time lead that left the Blues facing a second half in which they would only playing to restore their pride.
And, to a large extent they succeeded! the half was much more even and the hosts were only able to add to their lead by virtue of two penalties, the first of which was considered by many to be extremely harsh on Glenn Draper who not only appeared to make full contact with the ball but was then sent off for his tackle. This occurred with more than 25 minutes remaining and further increased the Blues’ plight by reducing them to ten men and purely playing for damage limitation, which they manfully managed to do until the second penalty was awarded with only three minutes remaining.
Their Tuesday performances have not served the Blues well this season and this one was no exception!
