Martin Gutteridge couldn’t have asked for a nicer day for his first game in charge of The Blues as Hertingfordbury Park was bathed in an Autumnal glow prior to the visit of the London Lions. The Lions were promoted to the Premier Division last season but have lost nearly all of the squad that saw them go up since then. Similarly Hertford Town also made some changes following recent departures with the impressive Brandon White and Ben Corbett both making the step up from our excellent U-21’s.
The game started well for the hosts with many chances created before a Charlie Smith cross found Corbett who lashed home for the opening goal on 33mins. Man of the match Corbett notched a second on 49mins with a clinical header following a corner and Harry Sedgeley nodded home a third (and his first for the club) soon after from another corner. The Lions who had been toothless to this point then hit back with two late goals but it wasn’t enough and The Blues took the day and all three points.
Full-time: Hertford Town 3-2 London Lions. (Att:102)
