Another long away for the fans to the small village of Holmer Green in Buckinghamshire following last week’s midweek trek to Hillingdon Borough in Ruislip. The only remaining away league matches of considerable distance are now only Ampthill & Biggleswade. A pleasant, sunny evening for football greeted the players and fans alike as they arrived at this small, basic but well kept little ground. Marvin Samuel shuffled the pack again following Saturday’s disappointing result at Hadley. Absentees included Stock (ankle), Christian (Hip), Buffonge (hamstring), Hall-Ramsey (leave), Donovan (leave) & Charles (leave). Campbell returned to the bench after missing out with a dead leg on Saturday. He was joined by Charlie Smith and newly signed ex-St.Mags striker, Adam Lawton. Samuel awarded himself a place in the starting line-up whilst Jordan Fletcher filled in at left-back.
The match started brightly for The Blues with Summers, Anstead and Samuel all going close and forcing the ‘Green ‘keeper into good saves before the home side inevitably took the lead. An underweighted back-pass from Tommy Wade fell well short of Harry Ricketts’ right boot and the lively Ryan Forbes latched onto the loose pass and slotted home to take the lead on 15mins. Hertford Town dominated the remainder of the first half and carved out many chances but failed to take any of them.
Half-time: Holmer Green 1-0 Hertford Town.
Lawton replaced Samuel during the interval but the visitors failed to find the quality in the final ball. The introduction of Smith & Campbell on 67mins brought and end to the hit and hope long balls and The Blues really started to turn the screw with Summers shooting just wide and Anstead hitting the bar with a thunderous header. Two penalty appeals fell on deaf ears by the match referee before an excellent Elliott cross caused confusion in the home penalty box which eventually found it’s way to Anstead to smash home the equaliser. The visitors pushed hard for the winner but eventually had to settle for a point on the road.
Full-time Holmer Green 1-1 Hertford Town. (Att:42)
