The week started with our first Bostik League home game on Tuesday night. This provided a sharp learning curve for The Blues when Bury Town beat us 6 – 0. Mistakes cost games but instead of focusing on the negative, we will learn from the game, work harder and move forwards. For the match report, video highlights and photos, please see the match page
The team trained hard on Thursday and it was all systems go for Saturday in our Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round. Hadleigh United made the journey from Suffolk to join us at The Park. The game couldn’t have been more different to Tuesday night, when after just 2 minutes, Daniel Bond found the back of the net. Jason Beck, who had predicted he would score, double the advantage just prior to the half-time whistle. When we returned from the break, a handball resulted in Hadleigh scoring a penalty. It wasn’t enough for the visitors though as just 6 minutes later, Bond scored again. We may need to get used to singing Bond theme tunes in the Stable End. Finally, super sub, Charlie Ruff came on and scored our final goal with his first touch of the ball. In his excitement he ran the length of the pitch and due to his joy, he had to feature in this news item’s photo! For the other photos and video highlights, please see the match page. The final score was 4 – 1 and The Blues are through to the next round.
While the U25s did not have a match this week, the first batch of their league fixtures were announced. Please see their fixtures page so you can update your diary.

Finally, Stevenage Ladies had their first league game today. The travelled to Luton Town for what was going to be a tough opener. The ladies lost 5 – 2 but as The Blues proved after Tuesday, chins up, work hard and success will come.
