Laurie Carroll

This Saturday March 25th sees a charity event being hosted at Hertford Town in memory of Laurie Carroll, a young footballer from Bengeo Tigers who sadly passed away last year.  Laurie was well loved by his family of John, Martine, Christian and Thomas, as well as being hugely popular at both at Bengeo Tigers FC and St. Joseph’s RC school, which he attended. Laurie loved life and had a positive, enthusiastic, and willing approach to everything and everyone.

Football can be a “funny old game” that divides opinion and provokes debate the world over, but one of its greatest strengths is the amazing ability it has to bring people together.  At Bengeo Tigers we have seen this repeatedly during recent months.  The offers of support and help from other football clubs, local businesses and local communities has been incredible.

Across the Mid Herts League there were spontaneous choruses of Laurie’s name being sang before weekend fixtures by young footballers keen to show their respect. Gifts, donations and offers of support have continued to come in making sure that Laurie’s name is never far away. From this we’ve seen our extended “Football Family” continue to grow and grow.

And that’s exactly what this weekend’s event is intended to do. Bring us all together as a “Football Family” to remember a fantastic young lad who had a zest for life and a love for football. Our appreciation and thanks go to everyone who has offered support and is part of the event, particularly Hertford Town FC for hosting this event.

The list of Raffle prizes on offer is nothing short of amazing. For the small sum of £2.50 you can win items ranging from an FC Barcelona shirt signed by Lionel Messi, to VIP Match day tickets to Charlton Athletic to gift vouchers from a range of local businesses. There is something for everyone.  All proceeds will be split between Hertford Town FC and Bengeo Tigers FC’s chosen charities of Mudlarks and Children with Cancer UK.

We have one final request for you all, let’s make sure that the minute’s applause being held before kickoff this week is as loud as possible and a fitting tribute for Laurie Carroll and his family.

Once a Tiger always a Tiger.
