It was a hard week to be a Blues fan with 2 losses in 3 days. We have become so used to success, this came as a real shock to most fans but that’s football!
First up The Blues welcomed Berkhamsted (well, some of them) to The Park on Tuesday. Thanks to most of the main roads leading to the ground being closed, only half of their team actually made it to The Park. As this was something they had no control over, the game was rescheduled for Thursday. So 48 hours later, we tried again. With only 2 days to go to a huge game against Cockfosters, our focus had to switch to the league title challenge and we bowed out of the Challenge Trophy in a 2 – 1 loss. While we were looking ahead to the game on Saturday, credit where credit is due, Berkhamsted were just the better team on the night! See the match page for the player stats and video.
A swift 2 days later saw fans travelling to Cockfosters for a massive game between 2nd placed Hertford and 3rd placed Cockfosters. It was end to end action from the very first whistle and the first half finished 0 – 0. In typical non league style, the second half had a fairly long delay when they ran out of match balls. After much searching through the shrubbery, the game kicked off and it didn’t take long for Cockfosters to get the first goal. While there were plenty of chances for Hertford to score, it was only in the 78th minute that The Blues managed to even things up. Cockfosters is always a difficult ground to play at so with 12 minutes to go, the fans would have been happy with the point. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, in the 4th minute of added time, following a quick break on the halfway line, Cockfoster’s scored their second and winning goal. The gap to the league leaders has extended but there is still plenty of football to be played so make sure you are at the next game (Tuesday at home) to cheer the boys on to victory. See the match page for the player stats and video.
While Saturday didn’t go to plan for the First Team, the Development Team continued to go from strength to strength when they welcomed Welwyn Garden City to The Park for a lively local derby. It was a tough game for the lads but following goals from Mason Todd and Luke Foster, Hertford Town were the worthy 2 – 0 winners.
Sunday was cup day for the U13 EJAs and Stevenage Ladies. First up were the EJAs who travelled to Cambridge for the rearranged fixture from last week. The long journey clearly did them no harm and they are through to the final in the Patrons Cup following their 1 – 0. Well done, boys!! Keep an eye on our events page. If the final is at home, these boys have earned our support.
The last game of the week saw Blues keeper and manager of Stevenage Ladies, Reece Buck, travel to the Letchworth County Ground with his team, where they took on Royston for their Herts County Cup Final. The girls didn’t just win, they won in style with their 4 – 0 victory. I think they may still be celebrating this great result. Well done Ladies!!
