The first match of the week was an away game against London Tigers that was played at home! Fans were rattled when Tigers went 2 – 0 up but The Blues showed their determination and following their first goal in the 57th minute, the rest of the game belonged to them. With 2 goals from Phil Lowen and one from Tommy Wade, the 2 – 3 win meant a vital 3 points on a night when league leaders, London Colney, drew their match against Biggleswade United. London Colney’s game kicked off earlier than ours and a wave of noise spread through the fans as news of the result came in. For the match report, player stats and video of the game, please see the match page.

Saturday saw Hertford Town celebrating its annual Fan’s Day. The day started earlier for some as our Inclusive Team welcomed Evergreen to The Park for a match prior to the big event. Due to the number of goals, I lost track of the final score (Evergreen won) but great fun was had all involved.

Evergreen Match

This was swiftly followed by the game that everyone was waiting for. The First Team’s match against Leverstock Green. The game didn’t go to plan with the boss having to make 2 very early substitutions. Both sides battled hard in front of the massive 462 noisy fans. Leverstock Green managed to score first and Phil Lowen evened things up just before half time with an assist from Ben Andreos. There were loads of chances but unfortunately the goals ended there. The 1 – 1 draw adds an important point to our league tally and as they say “If you can’t win, don’t lose”. Well done to the boys who worked very hard to try and get that winning goal.

It was, nonetheless, a great afternoon and Hertford Town proudly claims the highest match attendance of the day for all step 5 teams:

In the build up to the day and on the day itself, club videographer, Nathan Hobley was very busy shooting a fan’s view video. It shows how important non league clubs are for community spirit so if you haven’t seen it yet, please enjoy the below (click the video to open it in YouTube and see it on a larger screen):

On Sunday, the U13 EJA team were due to play Cambridge City in their semi-final in the Patron’s cup. Unfortunately, due to the wet conditions overnight, the game had to be postponed. Keep an eye on the events page to see when it is rescheduled so you can help cheer the boys on.

Also on Sunday, the U14 EJA had an away game at Wormley Rovers. Despite difficult conditions, the lads had a great game and won 4 – 0. The 3 points has put them top of the table. Well done boys!

Finally on Sunday, Stevenage Ladies had a league game against Wimbledon Ladies at The Park. A game against a 3rd placed team was always going to be difficult and although they battled hard, Wimbledon Ladies were the winners on the day with a 5 – 1 win.

On Tuesday night, following the win against London Tigers, we drew the balls for February’s B’LOTTO. Numbers 3 and 7 were pulled from the bag but as no-one was lucky enough to have chosen them, it’s a ROLLOVER. Please see the BLOTTO page for details on how you can take part next month.

Have a great week and COYB!!!
