The world of football is in shock this week with the news that the Chapecoense team were lost in a tragic plane crash. Hertford Town FC would like to extend their condolences to the families and friends that have been affected. The Blues and Crawley Green stood together yesterday to pay tribute to the team, prior to the match.

The Highlights

With no games midweek, our First and Development Teams both trained hard for their fixtures this weekend. The First Team made the long journey to Crawley Green on Saturday. Nerves were on edge when the boys conceded the first goal after 39 minutes. However, following that, there was no looking back for The Blues. In a game where the lads played some of their best football of the season, Tommy Wade (Wade Wade) found the back of the net twice with Phil Lowen sealing the result with a cracking goal on 93 minutes. While Blues Fans are enjoying a season of fantastic football, yesterday’s performance was special enough to lead to the following tweet from one of our longest serving fans and committee member, Brian Jennings:

@hornhert: Such was the dominance of Hertford’s display, had it been boxing, the ref would have had to stop it early. Lowen, class act in this League

The Gaffa was not only impressed by his team, but also the fans that made the journey to watch and showed his appreciation with the following tweet:

@gavin_kelsey: A big thanks for the support shown from the fans yesterday, very vocal on a cold away day

While a large number of fans followed the First Team to Crawley Green, a fair number went to The Park to watch the ever entertaining Development Team who welcomed Stotfold at home. Similarly to events at Crawley Green, the Development Team conceded first on 33 minutes. Markie Mark (Twumasi) recently back from injury, got the equaliser just after half time and the goals didn’t stop there. With time running out, the boys were 3-2 down, when on the 93rd minute – clearly a popular time for The Blue to score this week – Mason Todd scored the equaliser and his second goal of the game. The match finished a point a piece on 3 – 3. It definitely was an eventful game with one fan summing it up as:

@matt_writer: Good game good game

It was Super Sunday at The Park with both the U13 and U14 EJA teams playing at home. The U13s kicked it off at 10am when they took on Potters Bar Town. This was a league game for the boys with 2nd placed Potters Bar taking on 3rd place HTFC. This was always going to be a close team and the coaches and fans are proud of the boys for getting a point in the 1 – 1 draw.

Next up were the U14s whose opponents in Round 3 of the County Cup were St Albans City. These boys score for fun and are safely through to the next round after a 5 – 1 win. Well done boys!! For the highlights of the game, see the video below:
