Paul Halsey’s boys earned another valuable 3 points away at Biggleswade in our 9 game unbeaten league run on Saturday afternoon after being forced to play the majority of the game with just 10 men following the dismissal of Leigh Rose for two yellow cards.

“Shelagh’s Meals” had the day off from catering duties as Tracy from Biggleswade Utd produced a splendid chicken curry. Mrs Staines took full advantage and celebrated by testing the endurance of the kiddies playground in front of the ground prior to kick-off!

A competitive 1st half ended goal-less but the contentious red card appeared to fire up the lads from Hertford during the break who immediately took control following the interval and broke the deadlock 15 minutes into the 2nd half when half-time substitute and new Blue, Tyler Hatherly, picked out Lou Rose’s perfectly timed run into the opposition’s box which went completely unnoticed by the host’s defence and volleyed home past the home ‘keeper. Within 8 minutes The Blues had doubled their lead as Jordon Watson came off the bench to drill in a low, powerful shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area within 60 seconds of his arrival. The assist going to the industrious Lou Rose.

An official attendance of 81 felt like 81,000 inside the Second Meadow stadium with the noisy, travelling army of Blues fans outnumbering and out-singing the home support all afternoon. Sky Sports Revista De La Liga presenter & Biggleswade’s Director of Football, Guillem Balague was conspicuously absent for Utd’s latest defeat which sees them drop to 2nd from bottom in the league standings whilst The Blues are up to 2nd and just 3 points off leaders AFC Dunstable. Warming up nicely for our epic coach trip to Suffolk next Saturday!

See the match page for photos of the day.

We rounded off the day by celebrating Audrey “Queen of the Clubhouse” Xenophontos’s birthday in town and were also joined by Hoddesdon Town’s squad, fresh from their impressive FA Cup win at Sittingbourne earlier in the day.

Next game up for The Blues will be in The FA Vase next Saturday when we travel to Thurlow Nunn 1st Division side, Stowmarket Town. Our coach trips are legendary for a reason and if you get in quick, you may be able to secure one of the last few seats available on our 2nd coach! Email Audrey on to book your place.

We also have an open house for training on Thursday night to test our two new guest ales in the clubhouse. Pop in from 7pm to be amongst the first to try either the “Star” or the “Shipyard IPA”.

Keep an eye on our club Twitter feed and Facebook page for an announcement shortly as we have been told to replay our Challenge Trophy game against Hale Leys Utd at a neutral ground. A date and location will be posted as soon as we hear from the league’s governing body.
